Steven’s personal transformation is, in large part, a result of volunteerism, and an example of what state departments of correction can and should be.

Through his quilting, Steven aims to tell stories of the departed and be a voice for those who don’t have one. His keepsake quilts are often given to the families of departed loved ones, and are composed of various materials, including silks from around the world, cotton, fat quarters, denim, etc. Sometimes he even uses clothing worn by the departed. Steven’s goal is to be seen through his quilts and to be heard through his advocacy for end-of-life care and volunteerism opportunities in corrections.
